Along with my 6th District colleague, at-large council member Cathy Jolly, I would admit that Kansas City government has sometimes given tax breaks to developers that didn’t make a lot of sense.
Sometimes the projects probably could have been built without tax incentives or needed fewer ones than what was granted. Sometimes they were in desirable, rather than blighted areas of town. Sometimes they had little or no community support and were opposed by other taxing jurisdictions, such as the affected school districts.
